Moving to Australia

Once the initial research about the country, immigration agent and the visa points system was done, I was ready to get a jump start on the real thing. Please beware that it’s a long process, which can take over a year if everything is perfect and there are no surprises. You have to invest a lot of time, patience, money and energy in the process. So before jumping into it, make sure that you are absolutely sold to the idea of immigration.

Skills Assessment or English Language Test?

“Is country X better than country Y?”

This is the foremost question in anyone’s mind who is seriously thinking about living overseas. The answer to this question can be very subjective as individual circumstances and preferences are quite different.

But one thing is clear – you have to do a lot of research. You need to consider a lot of aspects when choosing a prospective country. Things such as the cost of living, ease of employment, safety, weather, public infrastructure, family support – so on and so forth.

This is the first post in the series on moving to Australia. In this series, I am going to write about how I conceived the idea of moving abroad, my experiences, challenges I faced as a visa applicant and later on as a newly arrived immigrant, tips to overcome them and staying sane throughout the whole journey. All the posts are written in chronological order and will make more sense if read in that order. It is my sincere belief that by sharing my experiences, other aspirants will become more aware of the challenges that lay ahead, ways to tackle them and make better decisions.

Back in the early 2000s, when I started my career as a software professional, unlike others I was not crazy about the “onsite opportunity” and living outside India. Let’s just say I never gave enough thought to that idea.
